Figures show that construction works in Aachen had a big impact on the traffic between Belgium and Germany, especially in the North-South direction. The South-North direction seemed less impacted by the construction works.
Also due to construction works on the Swiss network, during the whole year trains often had to be redirected to other stations than planned. In Bellinzona the planned stopping time was regularly exceeded (on average 30’ instead of 15’). For the year 2016 it was not possible to extend the stopping time. The reasons for this were longer driving times due to construction works and the constraints of traffic at border crossings. All administrative tasks were transferred to Luino. The development is being continuously monitored.
In fall construction works in Germany had a considerable impact on train runs.

Maintenance and construction works between Karlsruhe and Basel as well as on the Gotthard line influenced the traffic throughout the whole year. Additional problems were caused by the ETCS incompatibilities on the Gotthard line with unplanned loco changes in the first quarter of 2016. In May 2016 wagon movements were re-organised by IT-driven systems. Consequently, departure punctuality improved and, compared to 2015, the overall arrival punc- tuality increased by 5.9 %.
