More capacity in Chiasso
In Chiasso, a new electronic interlocking will be in operation from 15 April onwards, enabling an increase of capacity for rail passenger and freight transport. The station will be automated and managed by South Pollegio Central Station from mid-April onwards. Chiasso station plays an important role in the trans-Alpine traffic and expects an increase in freight and passenger traffic due to the opening of the Gotthard Base Tunnel and the Monte Ceneri Base Tunnel (in 2020).
