The modal swift between road and railway has become a necesity

Today's priority scheme in the Swiss railway system wobbles. SBB CEO Andreas Meyer as well as the Federal Bureau of Transport confirm the trend that more emphasis should be given to freight transportation in the future.

As the Federal Bureau of Transport (FBT) has stated, it is all about the long-term protection and a fair distribution of the available paths among the various rail types. The Federal Council wants to ensure that sufficient routes would be available both for passengers and for freight transportation. A new concept of network usage and network usage plans should enable the parity of traffic. Thanks to the new instruments, the quantity of train paths and paths’ quality assigned to each traffic type will be assigned and guaranteed in a long-term basis. The short-term introduction of a 15-minute-tact at the expense of freight traffic would no longer be possible. In the future, a more fair decision will be done whether freight or 15-minute-tact traffic would be priority, announces the FBT. Nevertheless, the actual scheduled service remains as it is.
