Switzerland signs Luino-Basel treaty

Swiss Federal Councillor, Doris Leuthard, has singned the corresponding contracts

Switzerland comes to the aid of Italy in financing the expansions for the four-meter corridor with 120 million Euros. Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard and the Italian Transport Minister Maurizio Lupi signed an agreement in Bern last Tuesday.

Therein, Switzerland is committed to contribute with a loan of 120 million Euros (150 million Swiss Francs) for adjustments to the profile on the Luino line. Italy will be responsible for the investment on the Milan-Chiasso line.

The financial burdens are distributed fairly, said Transport Minister Leuthard to the media in Bern. The solution found strengthens the transfer policy of Switzerland, but it is also part of the European transport policy.
