Update on cross-border freight travel from and to Belgium as of Monday, 19th July

Update on exceptional flooding on the Infrabel network as of Monday, 19th July 2021

Train traffic in the German federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate continues to be severely impaired. Numerous routes are completely closed or only accessible to a limited extent. The water masses severely damaged the tracks, switches, signaling technology, train stations and signal boxes in many parts of the country in western Germany.
In the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, tracks are affected over a length of around 600 kilometers. The damage assessment is still in full swing. All available employees and contracted companies have been on duty continuously since Wednesday evening. An exact forecast of the duration of the necessary repairs is only possible once the water has drained off.

International freight traffic to and from the Netherlands was able to be maintained. Since Friday, July 16, individual freigh trains have been able to travel to and from Belgiu, again on the Cologne-Aachen route.

Rail freight traffic is still disrupted in Belgium in several places. The good news is that the Montzen route, an important freight route between the port of Antwerp and Germany and a part of the RFC Rhine-Alpine, is back in operation.
